Assistens Kirkegård is a burial site in the middle of Nørrebro that also happens to be an important green, garden space for the neighbourhood. Though it was at first inaugurated in 1760 as a cemetery for the poorer districts, many acclaimed figures (Hans Christian Andersen, Niels Bohr, Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, amongst many) were to be buried here after the Golden Age. Now, the garden is a beautifully preserved, peaceful space to stroll, read, and relax in.
