In the village of Feutersoey, just south of Gstaad, this century-old Swiss favourite has been carefully reinvigorated by couple, Sabine Köll and Simon Richard. They bring with them experience from Gstaad’s most respected kitchens – creating a rustic dining room and garden terrace that feels wonderfully alpine. The restaurant’s near-legendary trout – served meunière or gently poached with potatoes and spinach – remains the reason most tables are booked well ahead.

Set within a stark, almost lunar landscape, Lake Sanetsch is defined by its electric‐blue water and dramatic dam. Summer suits long shoreline walks, cold swims and packed picnics; winter brings demanding snowshoe routes best left to the fit and confident. Access requires commitment via cable car or long valley hikes, but the reward is horizon‐wide views and a sense of true alpine scale at 2,000 metres.

Turquoise waters are framed by pine forest along a 3.5 km loop that suits families and casual hikers. Small climbs reveal far-reaching lake views, while benches and shaded spots break up the trail. Summer is all about cold dips and picnics, and spotting wildlife - from marmots to alpine birds. The route is accessible from the village or via a short drive, making it an approachable yet quick‐access outdoor jaunt.

Near Lake Lauenen, Mattestübli Beizli is a quintessential mountain chalet for dinner with storybook charm. Ride in on a horse-drawn carriage through snowy lanes, then settle into a wood‐lined dining room where the owner cooks fondue over a traditional fire. This is the star dish on the menu, but it’s perfect for families or couples seeking warmth, cosy corners and a memorable meal without fuss. Kids love sledding down the mountain after supper.
