Seafood is the name of the game at this teeny tiny raw bar that does everything right, whether it be po' boys, ceviche or simply good ole oysters.
Wait, what? 0 George Street? Only in Charleston do you find these charming, idiosyncratic addresses (keep your eyes peeled for others like 27 ½ State Street!). But don't be fooled by the numbers, this diminutive hotel is 100. Have your morning coffee in the lush courtyard or spring for room service in one of the 18 serene rooms in these restored 1804 buildings.
This unassuming hideaways is easily one of our favorite go-to's in Charleston. While their sushi and hot dishes have always been topnotch, their recent renovation has made it the place to be. The later you stay, the louder the music gets. Be careful, you might just forget where you are!
For pretty much as long as any binya can remember, FIG has been THE restaurant for a celebratory meal. Think: southern staples, just far, far better. From broiled Lady's Island Oysters with aji dulce butter and Lady Edison country ham with peach to tomato tarte tatin with goat's milk fromage blanc, the menu is testament to Fig's motto.
For a sweet but slightly less expensive option than the other hotels, book a room at Emeline. It's created as a home-away-from-home, and a trendy one at that, with a vinyl library and record players in each suite, refreshment-filled nooks on each floor, and bicycles to borrow to tootle about the city.
