Not just any old botanical garden, the Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca is considered to be an icon of Oaxaca City. Designed by a team headed by locally-renowned Francisco Toledo (aka El Maestro), the garden combines the rich history of Oaxaca and it's artistic traditions, whilst growing magnificent plants. Alejandro Ruiz's passion for Oaxacan cuisine is clear in the platters of food whisked to the tables: shrimp layered with hot chilli and corn esquiche, tacos de barbacoa (or a wood roasted lamb), to his toast served with hazelnuts, mole ice cream, and black mezcal.
