Before first settling down to a night of cocktails and somme northern fun at this speakeasy, you have to find it. Even before the night's shenanigans this can be a struggle. Look out for the small golden name plaque on the gate and the basement of an unassuming dry cleaner's. 

In the mood for wine, or feeling slightly more adventurous? The Bon Vivant, literally 'the good life', lives up to its name. Forgot the drambuie and whisky, you won't be able to catch a glimpse of this unless its fused within a luxurious cocktail. 

Though we'd tend to be in agreement that French food is best found in France, Cafe St Honoré strongly proves otherwise. It's a Parisian-bistro with a "slow food: philosophy and a daily changing menu. A causal cosy atmosphere, but we reassure you the food is mighty tasty. 

In the New Town, Little Capo is an Italian-ish restaurant with a big, buzzy personality. The salmon-pink exterior gives way to a compact room built around an aperitivo bar and dining counter, where Negronis, spritzes and vermouth flow freely. The menu shifts regularly – handwritten and full of shareable plates, homemade pastas and seasonal vegetables.
