Within the Copenhagen based, Design Museum Denmark is a terrific sun-catching terraced garden and an equally delightful café. It's open throughout the week for breakfast and lunch serving up the classics with a contemporary twist. Comté cheese is the filling of choice in the BMO and yogurt bowls come topped with olive oil and a seosonal compote. Though, with Boglárka Megyesi, formerly at the Copenhagen-beloved bakery Andersen & Maillard, as pastry chef, there are also a number of buttery, experimental delights. Lille Format next door is the perfect spot for a coffee and blood orange spandauer to go.
The 1752-57-built Royal Frederik's Hospital became a hub of Danish design when the architects Ivar Bentsen and Kaare Klint removed and remodelled the rococo building in the 1920s for the Designmuseum Denmark. Just a short walk from the Royal Amalienborg Palace, this centrally located museum fast became a pioneer in exhibitions related to art and industrial design. Stop by to browse the collection, experiment and get creative in the design lab, and relax in the museum garden, Grønnegården. The on-site café, FORMAT, and its neighbouring, LILLE FORMAT, serve deliciously seasonal dishes alongside a rotation of home-baked pastries and cakes. If you're lucky, nab a ticket to the Dine & Design community dinner that takes place under the evening sky on every second Thursday throughout September, October, and November for a long-table supper of vegan and vegetarian takes on the Danish classics (forlorn hare, meatballs, and winter stew).
The first sight of the infamous Fabro will quite possibly be of a lively queue. This walk-in spot attracts flocks of chic locals for its very affordable, yet scrumptious bowls of pasta. The pomodoro never disappoints!
