Duality has shaped Alessio’s life for as long as he can remember. Raised with the warmth of the Mediterranean Sea and the Dutch directness, our editor juggles between his Sardinian and Indonesian roots much like he moves from new-wave cafés to small, family-run warungs. Morocco and Java are among his favourite destinations, yet his heart will always belong to his home city, Cagliari. Despite his love for art and museums, he doesn’t shy away from a nature hike – provided there are enough stops along the way – and seeks out every local way to experience a place. As a recent branding and editorial graduate from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, when he’s not planning his next (overly) curated weekend trip – and the outfits to match – he can be found writing, reading, or doing both at the same time.

Named after the year the building was completed, THE1835 is Rosewood Vienna’s intimate rooftop cocktail bar, pairing bespoke drinks with sweeping views across the city. Grab one of its signature cocktails alongside lobster rolls and beef tartare bites, and watch the sun dipping behind the green dome of St Peter’s Church.
Thin, crispy pizzas come topped with everything from Gorgonzola and Sardinian sausage to sliced rosemary potatoes, while vintage-inspired interiors and old Italian tunes spinning on vinyl set the mood. From the owners of beloved Caffè Svizzero and Bacàn, Rimanino is the laid-back pizzabar locals come to for an easygoing evening over a few slices and a drink – and, as they say, when in Rome… or rather, Cagliari.
From the minds behind nearby Corso Dodici, Ex Tipografia swaps the classic espresso-and-cornetto breakfast for a decidedly more indulgent international brunch: think maple syrup-drizzled pancakes, generous bagels and a very Italian plate of pan bauletto tostato, sausage, bacon, fried eggs, roasted mushrooms and Dolcesardo cheese. Set in a former printworks overlooking buzzy, locals-filled Piazza Yenne, it’s just as good come dinnertime. If asparagus or artichoke carbonara makes an appearance, order it without hesitation.
