Cook House, it's fair to say, pioneered the "foodie revolution" in Ouseburn. Using ingredients sourced from Hexhamshire Organics, Anna Hedworth's dishes don't disappoint. Whether its the bbq'd mackerel with mussels, bone broth and kohlrabi or a aioli crusted hake and bacon crumble, the menus change with the seasons...and what the small kitchen feel like rustling up that day!

The motto, "big quarter slices for tiny little prices" pretty much sums up the charm of Gingerino's. Housed within a vibrant, neon-orange warehouse is this pizza factory. A place which rustles up oodles of fermented dough, the richest D.O.P. tomato sauce and the creamiest fiore di latte mozzarella. Grab a slice or two before, or after, your pint at any of the Ouseburn's numerous, local pubs. 

Kiln is a pottery studio and restaurant tucked away in Ouseburn. For wheel-thrown ceramic classes, a few good Middle-Eastern inspired dishes, delicious cocktails and that unique, Newcastle charm, Kiln has it all. Pop into Brinkburn St brewery next door, for the perfect end to a great supper. 

There's no question when you're roaming the fields and moors of Blanchland, a post-walk pint and drink is essential. Stop by the Lord Crewe for a "Crewe Brew" and a hearty pub lunch. 

Alex Nietosvuori has brought a taste of Scandinavia to this somewhat-rural part of the North East. Hjem may have a homely feel, apt for its name, though the food is extraordinary. A tasting menu of dreams, see the table transform to a fika feast at the end of the meal. Fika: Nietosvuori's way at least. 

Yes, yes. The Small Canteen is a short drive away from the rugged hills of Northumberland, though a trip to the North East can't be done without one dinner here...at least! It's small, with four tables and a bar stool, the toilet is outside, and the kitchen top is a small counter. That's what makes it even more surprising, that this small place serving big plates, makes it amongst Britain's best of the best.
