While there are innumerable inspiring museums in the Netherlands—the Rijks, the Stedelijk, Kröller Müller—there is only one that specialises in sculpture: Museum Beelden aan Zee. Founded in 1994 by collectors Theo and Lida Scholten, the museum shows a beautiful collection of both international and Dutch sculpture in a stunning villa by the sea.

If you can gear yourself up to take the train (or a car if you’re bold) out to Wassenaar, you can spend no more glorious an afternoon than one studying the gorgeous collection at Museum Voorlinden. Focusing on both modern & contemporary art, the museum houses the Caldic Collection, the largest private art collection in the Netherlands. The design was inspired by the Danish Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
