Tucked away within the idyllic Gleneagles hotel is Andrew Fairlie, a restaurant still boasting the title of Scotland's longest-standing two Michelin-starred spot. The dishes are as ludicrously tasty as they are aesthetic, so settle down for a four course feast fusing French classics with Scottish personality. 

Inside The Mercat, you'll find a café and shop rolled into one beautifully restored, tiled space from the same team as The Dundonald a few doors down. The smell of toasted sourdough and whipped-up lentil soup meets the sight of curated homewares, from Sabre Paris cutlery to beeswax candles. On the menu, there’s everything from sharp Isle of Mull cheddar toasties and apple-and-walnut salads to sourdough baguettes with house pickles and Earl-Grey fruit scones – plus jars of artisan jams and natural wine that are just begging to come home (or further north) with you.

As with many remarkable dining experiences within Fife, the atmosphere is wholly unpretentious and unfussy. The food however is something else. As the log fire burns away, this Michelin star spot, prides itself on using the finest Scottish ingredients to create a tasting menu that will exceed any expectations.
