Nishiki brings the lively spirit of a Japanese izakaya to Edinburgh’s West End. The menu is built for sharing: onsen eggs in dashi, takoyaki, crispy gyoza, sushi and skewers, alongside bowls of noodles and punchy small plates. Drinks are a big part of the picture too, with saké, Japanese whisky and matcha-based treats on offer. Inside, a calm Japandi-style interior – light wood, lanterns and communal tables – sets the tone for relaxed, sociable dining.

Pizza anyone? We wouldn't say no to a classic San Paolo, or a Zielinski if we're feeling spicy, from Pizzeria 1926. A pillowey, perfectly chewy crust, a generous ladle of tomato and topped with the finest buffalo mozzarella; there's a reason this spot holds the only Neopolitan-approved Associazione in Scotland. 

We don't know if its the pappa al pomodoro, the freshly grilled seafood or the pastiera that draws us to Locanda de Gusti whenever we're ambling the streets of Haymarket. What we do know, is that it's the familial buzz, the happy-go-lucky energy and the exceptionally warm vibe of this spot which has us keep going back. It's a gem!

Founded in 1984 by Annie and Lachie Stewart, ANTA is known for reworking traditional textiles – tartans, tweeds and herringbones – into contemporary interiors. Inside the calm flagship shop you’ll find hand-painted Highland stoneware, wool throws, flatweave carpets and furniture, all inspired by Scotland’s landscapes and made with natural materials by skilled artisans.
