Around the corner from Smithfield meat market, the original St. John is an institution of the British nose-to-tail movement. There’s also a Marylebone outpost, but we love this less formal Spitalfields offshoot as well as the custard-filled doughnuts coming out of its bakeries in Bermondsey and Neal’s Yard. A must-visit contemporary classic.

The first location of this London mini-empire is the perfect place to pop in for lunch or dinner when you're wandering through Shoreditch. It's a riot of flavour and spice, so heat-averse beware.

If you want to blend in with the English, visit The Gun for after-office beers or a night out with the lads. Rad music, grand energy, curated drinks and neon lights.
