The elevated Chinese menu at this family-run restaurant is secret and ever-changing – diners will be asked on arrival for their spice preference but the rest is left to the chefs. Don’t expect kung pao chicken and spring rolls here. More often than not there are light tempura green beans doused in chilli and garlic (nicknamed “chips” by founder Mr Peng, they’re so addictive), or twice-cooked red pork delivered in a paper bag to be ripped open at the table. An insider tasting menu that delivers in spades.

Willow baskets and lighting by Studio AMOS in Sussex; one-off hand-woven throws by London-based textile weaver Catarina Riccabona; and ash spoon and bowl sets by Devon’s woodworking duo Takahashi McGil, are just some of what’s on display at this Pimlico showroom. There are also unique pieces, made especially for The New Craftmaker, such as Alexandra Robinson’s conical-shaped, plaster-finish Arrow Wall Light and hand-built, sculptural stoneware lamps by Studio Viv Lee.

Interior designer, antiques dealer and furniture designer Rose Uniacke does a lot. She’s also a trained furniture restorer, gilder and paint lacquer specialist. Her designs (a green-tiled coffee table or hand- turned three-legged oak chair, perhaps) share the purist bones of her antique finds (a rare Venetian glass mirror, Georgian knee-hole desks) – all combining a beautiful play of light and texture.
