The team behind Brat have thrown their hat in the central London ring with this Soho sequel. Like its Shoreditch sibling, it was quickly awarded a Michelin star for its barbecued British ingredients. The signature Welsh lobster caldereta is inspired by a braised Basque mountain-style dish with a nod to chef Tomos Parry’s hometown. Slightly moodier than Brat, with a menu full of comforting flavours, it’s a great choice on a winter evening when guests escape the cold for a Negroni in the basement ahead of supper.

London is a city with a world-class Indian food offering that includes everything from canteen-style Punjabi feasts at Tayyabs to two-Michelin-starred Gymkhana via the brilliant Dishoom. But it’s Gymkhana’s younger, funkier little sibling that is stealing its waiting list. Ambassadors Clubhouse is a low-lit warren of striped pillars and loud swirling carpets, where staff dish up crisp keema naans and resplendent pots of biryani. The Tamatar Martini is worthy of note – poured with just the palest tint of tomato, but with the flavour of a full-blown Bloody Mary. A lot of fun that’s hard to fault. 

Savile Row is famous for its tailoring, and Drake’s is one of the best on the block. Though it only expanded its repertoire from ties to fully fledged menswear in recent decades, the team now makes soft-shouldered chore jackets (a staple of London’s creative industry), chukka boots and caps alongside double-breasted suits in fine herringbone. A contemporary classic for British blokes.

London is not a city short of wine bars and small plates. So when such a place becomes as renown as Bar Crispin you know it's going to be good. Headed by chef Fabien Spagnolo (who rustles up dishes such as crispy polenta, fried prawn sando, and devilled brown crab) and sommelier Alex Price who is an expert in low-intervention wines. This is not a spot to miss.
