But luckily style & substance go hand-in-hand at Toki. The food, dreamed up by plant-based culinary artist Chef NANA, is excellent, as are the pastries. After a long stroll through the Vondelpark, we love popping over to Trakteren for a coffee and one of their many delicious cakes. 'Trakteren' means 'to treat' in Dutch. A very fitting name indeed! 

Part contemporary art gallery, part design store, part café, this canal house proves that admiring art is much easier with a freshly brewed coffee in hand. Fuel your browsing classic Dutch poffertjes topped with Greek yoghurt and blueberry compote, or the vegan lentil ragù, then try your best to leave without buying a print, a ceramic vase, or both.

When they say uncommon, they really mean it. Great cafes and roasteries are pretty much par for the course in Amsterdam these days, but Uncommon still stands head and shoulders above the rest. With an extensive list of wild and wonderful coffees and a short but sweet seasonal food menu, it’s the kind of place you’ll come back to time and time again.

With so many people already working remotely & more transitioning to that working from home lifestyle by the day, the work week can get a little monotonous. When boredom strikes (or we desperately need a little human interaction) we like to settle in at VENU for a day or two. It’s the perfect place to collaborate or simply create on your own. In the mood for some seriously good coffee? Head to Wakuli to satisfy all of those caffeine cravings. Don't be afraid to ask about the beans of the day, the baristas are always more than happy to talk all about the various blends on offer and send you home with a bag of the freshest grinds. 

You may think it’s American, but apple pie is about as Dutch as you can get. It may take a few extra minutes waiting in line at Winkel 43, but we promise it is totally worth the wait. It tends to be extra busy on Saturdays when the Noordermarkt is heaving with visitors, so sneak by for a slice of the best apple pie in the city on a quiet weekday afternoon.

Founded by a duo of true Amsterdammers, YUSU has become a go-to for Oost’s young, creative crowd, helped by its location near the city’s most-famous fashion academy. Its name comes from the Surinamese word for “serious” - a nod to the team’s roots and the seriously good coffee served here. Beans are sourced from Amsterdam specialty roastery Back to Black, with a private-label blend for both espresso and filter. Alongside the excellent coffee, you can expect ceremonial matcha and house-baked treats like Surinamese pasteitjes, Brazilian pão de queijo and rotating pastry specials. Regular collaborations with local artists and DJ sets keep things moving, making YUSU as much a cultural hangout as the coolest people-watching stop.
