Though a lot of Amsterdam’s museums are clustered together in the Museumkwartier, one of our go-to spots for soaking up culture is just across the Magere Brug. Right beside the Amstel River and the Opera House sits Alpha Coffee, a specialty coffee spot with a Greek twist. It’s perfect for an early morning breakfast run – grab a cappuccino and one of the most comforting, cinnamon-laced pastries in the city. The sweet treats can be subbed for Greek salads and savoury pastries (minced meat and spinach, feta filo parcels) in the afternoon, but make sure to take home a slice of sweet pumpkin pie. The summer sun hits this sleek little sun in the early evening, turning it into a prime perch for soaking up some vitamin D. 

This stunning building gracefully situated on the Amstel is home to the world renowned Dutch National Opera & Dutch National Ballet. You can, of course, find age old classics performed here, but we’re particularly enchanted by their unique, progressive productions. They have an ever-changing roster of performances, so it’s wise to check their website for their current opera & ballet performances.

A private residence, yet also home to some of the most astonishing artworks, Collectie Jan Six is well worth a visit, though it is by appointment only. Don't be surprised when your spot a Rembrandt or Paulus Potter hanging on the walls, for this collection boasts a terrific amount of art and archives for art-history lovers to swoon over.
