Ahh, a night at the opera! Home to the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, the Oslo Opera House is a modern architectural feat. It's a bridge between the city and sea and the perfect place to spend the day touring or the night enjoying.
Architect Eero Saarinen has converted the former American embassy into a fabulous new dining spot. Creating food inspired by chef, Charif El Messaoudi's native France, the American history of the building, and using the freshest of Norwegian ingredients, the flavours are just sensational - and as is the wine! If we can leave you with one top tip: try the turbot, it will not disappoint!
Re-opened in June 2022, the National Museum now hosts the biggest collection of Norwegian art. In 2003, it merged the National Gallery, the Museum of Architecture, the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art together to create this vast and impressive collection. Definitely take a pause at the Museum cafe, situated on the third floor with views over the whole harbour.
Oslo’s grand old Art Deco power station has been reborn as Sommerro, a glamorous yet laid-back hangout that feels more like a local clubhouse than a hotel. Think gilded murals, vintage lighting, and velvet-trimmed corners that nod to the 1930s. There are six restaurants and bars, from the all-day brasserie with live jazz to the rooftop terrace with city views and cocktails. Locals like to drop in for afternoon tea, poolside hangs, or even a swim in the subterranean public baths.
Oh, how grand! Sleep like a queen (or a king) next to the old palace! The historic hotel is the perfect place to call it quits at the end of your busy day.
