This Robinson Crusoe-style shack on pebbly Laurito beach is best reached on the restaurant’s own boat from Positano. Adolfo Bella and his wife Lucille turned this patch of wilderness into a barefoot paradise in 1960; today the next generations serve their signatures – thick mussel soup, mozzarella grilled on lemon leaves, the freshest of fish – then leave you to while away the afternoon on the beach.

Named after the owner of Il San Pietro di Positano, this hotel restaurant is set away from Positano’s main swirl. Back in 1970, when Positano was morphing from simple fishing village to dolce vita central, Carlo ‘Carlino’ Cinque built a modernist villa on a promontory two kilometres outside Positano. Wedged into a cliff face – with a lift plunging through the rockface to a private platform below – it is a lair worthy of a Bond villain, magicked heroically into a first-class hotel by Carlino and still owned by his heirs today.
