Named after the owner of Il San Pietro di Positano, this hotel restaurant is set away from Positano’s main swirl. Tables are arranged on a quiet terrace above the water, the menu keeps things light and precise – crudo, grilled fish – with an emphasis on long, unhurried lunches rather than spectacle. It’s the kind of place to settle in for a few hours and let the afternoon stretch out.

Back in 1970, when Positano was morphing from simple fishing village to dolce vita central, Carlo ‘Carlino’ Cinque built a modernist villa on a promontory two kilometres outside Positano. Wedged into a cliff face – with a lift plunging through the rockface to a private platform below – it is a lair worthy of a Bond villain, magicked heroically into a first-class hotel by Carlino and still owned by his heirs today.

This Robinson Crusoe-style shack on pebbly Laurito beach is best reached on the restaurant’s own boat from Positano. Adolfo Bella and his wife Lucille turned this patch of wilderness into a barefoot paradise in 1960; today the next generations serve their signatures – thick mussel soup, mozzarella grilled on lemon leaves, the freshest of fish – then leave you to while away the afternoon on the beach.
