This lovely temple is one of the city's greatest Zen structures. With wonderful mountain views and surrounded by a serene landscape garden, this is the place to retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. 

The gateway to Kyoto's forested mountains, stroll through the soaring stalks of bright green bamboo early in the morning before it becomes too crowdy. It truly feels like walking through another world.
