Onomichi Ramen Akatsuki delivers a classic, deeply satisfying bowl of ramen, built around a soy-based broth with a subtle layer of fat that is synonymous with this style of noodle. The menu is small (usually only eight or so dishes) and only in Japanese. Expect a casual and no-frills stop to keep things simple, although we would recommend getting an extra green onion topping which cuts through the richness. 

Porco is a small, wine focused dinner spot, inspired by European cuisine. The menu is designed for sharing, making this a great place for couples or groups. Get a range of small plates, pasta and meats and ask for wine recommendations and pairing suggestions – the staff are super knowledgeable and friendly.  

Smile Okonomiyaki serves Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, layering cabbage, noodles and fillings like pork or seafood rather than mixing before grilling and covering in brown sauce and aonori (seaweed seasoning). The result is rich, textural and deeply satisfying. Sitting at the counter adds to the experience, letting you watch the process unfold. Portions are generous, so arrive hungry or share one between two people and order some sides too. If you feel overwhelmed by the toppings, the best okonomiyaki order is pork filling and cheese as an extra.
