The Grand Budapest Hotel in real life? That's exactly what the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel feels like. Tuck into high tea on the terrace of the iconic pink grand dame and feel like a character in a film.
This casual gastropub is indispensable in the Kloof Street, having been known amongst the locals as the best spot for a hearty comforting meal. Although its owners have experiences in Michelin-starred restaurants, the Black Sheep remains an unpretentious and modest dining experience. But best believe that the food is still star-worthy!
Inspired by the owners’ mother, Sophia Electra, Café Sofi is a nod to their favourite recipes. The menu centres on comforting dishes with subtle Greek influences – spanning breakfast and lunch favourites including honey-butter croissants, crispy hake baps, beef ragù rösti, and generous sourdough sandwiches. All served in a soft, light-filled space with striped floors and warm wood furniture just off Kloof Street.
Indulge in chef Jesper Nilsson's urban menu in a modern Scandinavian minimalistic setting. From artisanal pizza to some of Cape Town's finest plant-based recipes, there truly is no end to contemporary elegance here.
Nestled on the slopes of Table Mountain, Kensington Place is as intimate as they come. Quiet and cosy, this boutique hotel feels like a country retreat despite being only a stroll from Kloof Street. If available, make sure to book Room 1; it's the only room with a fireplace.
This serene Japanese gem offers delicious cocktails, fresh sashimi and pristine sushi. Book a spot at the sushi bar and order the Kyoto Garden roll and a peppy Asian Mary cocktail.
Nourish'd Café & Juicery is the place to be for refreshing and flavourful healthy food. They have mostly vegan and vegetarian dishes. The amazing atmosphere, great food, and lovely staff keep us coming back over and over again.
One Park is one of our fav listening bars in South Africa. It's a place where you never quite know what you'll get. A wine bar with Afro-Asian small plates, cocktails and a vinyl DJ? A new tattoo at one of their frequent pop-up events? Or maybe a boogie on a Friday night? But what you can always count on is an intimate, romantic space with amazing vibes.
When we're in town, we love to start our day at Our Local. Preferably with Eggs Florentine, a Mimosa and a good book. Maybe stay for lunch with a friend, so a Caesar Salad and another drink (this time it's probably a Cosmo). Coffee and cake in the afternoon, then dinner with the family. And did we mention it's also a plant shop? What can we say, we LOVE this neighbourhood gem.
The Indian-style tapas at Thali are best shared between friends, but they're so good you may want to keep a plate all to yourself.
Sometimes all you need is a good, classic burger. And Zuney offers just that, but better! They offer a simple, but incredible Wagyu burger, straight from farm to table and crispy, salty fries on the side. The space is hip, cool and perfect for some people-watching. What more could we ask for?
