Pizza. Where to begin without turning into an ode to what is quite possibly the nation's most universally adored food? Whether it's thin crust or thick crust, New York-style or Neopolitan, the endless variations of toppings and the classic question 'does pineapple belong on a pizza?'. Perhaps, it's true, and a margherita is the only way to true authenticity?
Controversies aside, we have racked our brains long and hard to narrow down our pizzeria favourites. And though Italy may be the home of pizza, we're pretty certain that the slices and pies we've rounded up are equally worth a mention.

Euro Pizza. Our love for this spot runs deep. It has the vibe of many of the Noord establishments we love — think neon doors, football tees on the wall, piles of logs and retro TVs — but it also serves astonishingly good pizza. Their classic is a margherita with white miso, mozzarella, lemon verbena and basil. So, settle down for some natural wine and some small plates to start; we are in Amsterdam after all!

For such a small place, the pizzas are huge. Both in size and in flavour. No cutlery is required, for the base is so crisp you can simply fold and savour. It's just the sort of low-key place where this is entirely acceptable. What is more, there is absolutely no skimping on toppings. Errol's Hot Pizza has stolen our hearts.

Copenhagen has fast become synonymous with good food; many of our favourite places are in this city. And though we know there are only so many times a place can claim to serve the finest pizza in the world, we reckon Bæest has good groundings. It all comes down to the mozarella: it's hand-stretched every day before being carefully shred onto the sourdough base. Simple perfection in every mouthful.

If we've learnt anything from our pizza cravings, it's that the cheese-to-tomato ratio has to be on point. Giro doesn't disappoint. It sizzles when its pulled from the oven, the cheese is molten, the dough is bubbling and the crusts are evenly, brilliantly charred. Topped with nduja, anchovies or smoked mozzarella, your indulgence won't let you down.

Moving briefly away from the Neapolitan, NY-style deserves a mention. It's only fair we start things off with our very favourite pizza establishment in New York City. Not all restaurants have their own Wikipedia page, but, then again, not all pizza places feature in a blockbuster film. Serving the famous New York slice to tourists and locals alike, is it worth the hype? You'll have to see for yourself.

NY-style has made it to the streets of Marylebone. There are a lot of pizzerias in London Town, but there is just something about Alley Cats Pizza that tops the lot. Whether it is their hilariously laid-back marketing, their ridiculously hip decor or their insanely good pizzas, we don't know. What we do know is that each of the seven pizzas on the menu will have you drooling.

Rounding things off, it's only right that we finish with a Naples classic. Named the 'sacred temple of pizza', L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele is legendary. Founded in 1870, this spot is revered by many — for as Julia Roberts says, "I'm in love. I'm having a relationship with my pizza." Indeed, everyone falls in love with this Naples classic. To be the world's best pizzeria is a difficult feat; to maintain that title is even more difficult. But when you take your first bite of the just-right-crust-not-too-tomatoey-perfectly-cheesy slice, it is simply magic.
