WORDS Hayley Daen

We always wanted to be the kind of people others are drawn to. Those people that turn heads in the street, that captivate with their work. With seemingly little effort. And while we may not be those people ourselves, we're lucky enough to know a few of them. And to call them our friends. Enter: Imogen Kwok.

A culinary artist with a serious eye for the aesthetic, Imogen is far more than a caterer. She doesn't just create menus; she creates worlds.

She's lucky enough to travel for work, but her personal calendar is often just as packed with jaunts around the world. It's hard to keep track of where she is and when she's there. She's the ultimate whirlwind.

We had a chat with Imogen to find out how she lives, how she travels and where she's headed next.

"I’m lucky that my work and passion are intertwined so everything I love to do (exploring new restaurants, bars, exhibitions and art openings) is a natural part of my research and developing ideas for projects."
Imogen Kwok

On who she is...

I work across culture, design and cuisine. I’m known for creating culinary experiences and visual content for luxury fashion houses, design studios, galleries and art fairs. Born in Sydney Australia, raised in New York City and currently living in London.

And how she likes to travel...

I’m not fussed about following a precise daily itinerary—usually I make a long list of places I would like to go and then let the flow of the trip happen naturally. Recently, I've been very into more remote places vs. busy cities, as I travel often for work. I want a place with land and sea to just lounge about.

On what she brings when she's on the go...

A pareo (in summer, it’s a skirt for your bathing suit, a dress or a beach towel, and in winter, it’s a ‘dressing gown’ to wrap around you after a hot bath) and hydrating sheet masks.

And the best place she's ever been...

One of my most memorable and favourite trips was to Siwa Oasis, mostly because of the mystery factor. I had never been to Egypt before, and this was in a very remote area with no electricity. It was a stunning natural environment to be in, which made you feel vulnerable and surprised at every moment.

On what she loves to do in her own city...

Very into sitting at the counter at Mezcaleria underneath Kol.

And where she'd stay if she weren't at home...

Bennesse House.

On her most beloved restaurant.

Estela in New York City, for sure.

And the museum she never misses when she's in town...

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art just outside Copenhagen.

And, of course, her bucket-list....

Seoul—I am half Korean and still haven’t been there properly.
