Home of the landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, Sítio Roberto Burle Marx is a beautiful estate on the outskirts of Rio. Well worth the trip to see the outstanding garden with lucious plants and amazing architecture. 

Head here for some fresh air and to stretch your legs! Pedra Bonita is a great hike with some beautiful sights. 

Set in the Floresta da Tijuca, Museu do Açude is the former getaway of one of the richest men in Brasil, Raymundo de Castro Maya. A little over a decade ago, a few prized artworks were installed in the jungle to transform the area into a kind of a local Inhotim. Though it's a little remote (though still in the city), it's never overrun with tourists. Do not sleep on this hidden gem!

Designed by Burle Marx, Instituto Moreira Salles is one of those lovely mid-century modernist houses that just so happens to host amazing exhibitions. Who wouldn't love it?
