Moss is a tiny, quietly radical restaurant devoted entirely to the Scottish landscape. The kitchen serves a hyper-seasonal menu made entirely from Scottish ingredients, many grown on the owner's family farm in Angus. The intimate space feels part restaurant, part craft studio, with handmade ceramics and pared-back interiors dressed in foraged botanicals. Dishes shift constantly – venison, just-gathered herbs, fresh-from-the-coast seafood – each plate a thoughtful, slightly wild snapshot of Scotland right now.

This thoughtfully stocked independent store rewards a slow browse. Since opening in 2012, Dick's has built a loyal following for its careful edit of menswear, womenswear, accessories and homewares, all chosen with an eye for craftsmanship and longevity. The rails blend Scottish knitwear from makers like Jamieson’s of Shetland, Harley of Scotland and Begg & Co (the cosiest cashmere) with Nordic favourites such as Andersen-Andersen and SNS Herning (covetable fisherman jumpers). Lovely raincoats, linens, and basketry are also in the mix.

Messer is a small but seriously covetable knife shop from the team behind Skua. Run by Katie Messer and chef James Aikman, it’s Scotland’s first specialist artisan knife store, stocking beautifully made Japanese blades from makers like Mcusta, Zanmai and Ryusen alongside cookbooks, food magazines and chef-grade tools.

Down a few stone steps on St Stephen Street, Skua is a candlelit basement where big flavours rule. From the team behind Heron, it serves punchy seasonal small plates cooked in a compact open kitchen. It's earning its stripes for bold combinations, plenty of pickled and fermented elements, and a lively bar pouring inventive cocktails and natural wine.
