Burrowed into the South Tyne valley, within the rugged Northumberland moorlands, this village inn is a short stride from some of the best walking territory. Hyper-seasonal, locally sourced ingredients are the base of all the fare served at the inn. The four bedrooms, by Edinburgh studio Fantoush, borrow earthy tones with complementing splashes of colour – take the bright red Roberts radio in Church Stile, the William Morris wallpaper in Knarburn and the velvet-wrapped headboard in South Tyne. For larger groups, the Old Rectory next door has six equally well-designed bedrooms.
