The perfect curation of vintage items doesn't exist...or does it? Archive by Natalie comes pretty darn close. We cannot NOT enter this store without buying something.
Find this four-bedroom guesthouse behind an unmarked door on Portobello Road. Inside it feels like a particularly cool Notting Hill flat (with House of Hackney wallpaper and a rooftop terrace in the penthouse). There’s no restaurant but guests stay here to dip in and out of the local scene. Check in for all the independence of an Airbnb, plus the pros (housekeeping, concierge and Ottolenghi pastry breakfast deliveries) of London’s best hotels.
Notting Hill is surprisingly short on standout hotels; and so when the Laslett arrived in 2015 it was the first boutique stay to really shake its tail feathers. Set across five Victorian mansions, it has antiques from stalls on Portobello and Golborne roads in the bedrooms and photographs by Barry Kamen on the walls. A space for those who want to feel like they live in a glossy part of London for a few days, which happens to be refreshingly affordable too.
What began as the Electric Palace way back when in 1911, is still a thriving cultural hub in the form of a single-screen cinema. Check out their agenda for the latest art-house movies.
Another gem from the team behind KURO Coffee, KURO Bakery has an incredible selection of fresh, handmade pastries with a Japanese bent. The selection is masterminded by head baker Adam Morley and includes seasonal filled croissants, Danish delicacies, Shokupan and Kuro’s own Sakuras (wheel-shaped croissants filled with cream).
