Sure, Amsterdam has no shortage of great parks that are perfect for whiling away an afternoon in the sun, but we couldn’t possibly leave out the Westerpark. In addition to its expanses of leafy green space, the Westerpark also has a lively creative and nightlife scene. Pop into the Westergasfabriek to check out indie shops, a cinema, and cool restaurants.

Het Ketelhuis is one of Amsterdam's quintessential arthouse cinemas and a fave amongst locals. Most screenings are Dutch-spoken independent films, but don’t let this discourage you from stopping by! Het Ketelhuis is also a lovely spot for coffee or something to eat, particularly in spring and summer!

Chez Nina

When we first heard that Chez Nina was a self-dubbed ‘green brasserie’, we must admit we were a little dubious. But boy, were we wrong! The dishes here are as inventive as they are delicious. Though everything is veg-focused, nothing is precious, and you most definitely won’t finish your meal and find yourself hungry 45 minutes later. Chez Nina, we love you.

This modern neighbourhood smokehouse is a fun retro-chic spot that serves the best Kansas-style barbecue in the city. We like their juicy delicious pork ribs and their pecan pie!

Café Beurre

As the name suggests, Café Beurre is a haven for butter lovers. Chef Kim Jongbloed has crafted a menu full of dishes celebrating our favourite fat. Think rhubarb, chilli and vodka infused butter poured over burrata or roasted red beetroot with ajo blanco and pistachio. Bonus: the whole menu is vegetarian!
