Found in an old taberna, Barbaric may look like a 1970's throwback, but the food is refreshingly modern. After meeting in Berlin, Julia Dewald and Álex Sánchez Beseler returned to Álex's home city to reinvent the classic Valencian bar. Expect unusual European wine, like a rare Savagnin blanc from Jura legend Thomas Jacquin, and inventive Mediterranean small plates, like harissa clóchinas (Valencian mussels) or homemade morcilla (blood sausage). Finish with an orange sorbet with mandarin meringue and yuzu kosho, then dance until 3:30am at vinyl-loving HIFI just a 10-minute walk away.
