If you loved Copenhagen’s Nyhavn, you will love Bergen’s Bryggen. If you get hungry during your walk along the harbour, make your way over to Bryggeloftet. This historic restaurant serves traditional Norwegian fish and meat dishes.

The Grand Hotel Terminus is a historic hotel with the best whisky bar in town. While many tend to pop in for late-night drinks, we encourage you to let drinks roll into sleep if you're in Bergen.

If you want to enjoy lunch with a view, Fløirerestauranten should be your first port of call. If their jaw-dropping views weren't enough, their seasonal dishes made from ingredients sourced from the surrounding mountains and fjords will do the trick. We recommend their extraordinary toast skagen.

Just outside Bergen, the four-room design-led retreat takes up a beautifully restored manor house surrounded by forest, sea and Nordic landscape. Interiors are pared-back and warm: timber textures, soft linens and huge windows framing the endlessly shifting light. Days revolve around being outside – cold-water swims (it’s still the North Sea, even in summer), cycling trails, long breakfasts and sunset dinners that lean into Norway’s famously long still-light evenings. It feels remote in the best possible way: totally restorative (sauna sessions daily), quietly peaceful and refreshingly different from the usual Mediterranean circuit.
