Central Sardinia
in Sardinia

The island’s wild heart – and one of the world’s rare Blue Zones – Central Sardinia trades beaches for something deeper. This is a landscape ancient nuraghi, rugged mountains with deer and mouflon, and villages where traditions still hold strong, echoing in the ancestral songs of the Tenores di Bitti.

Barbagia

Home to one of the world’s Blue Zones, Barbagia is carved right into the mountainous heart of Sardinia, dotted with charming villages and some of the island’s highest peaks. Still deeply connected to its ancestral traditions, the region is also an unexpected home for contemporary artists, creatives, and exhibitions.

Marmilla

Up on the Giara di Gesturi, Marmilla trades its beaches for a windswept plateau of cork oaks, shallow paulis ponds and open skies, scattered with traces of the ancient Nuragic past. Here, the island’s small, semi-wild Giara horses roam freely, giving the landscape a raw, authentic feel of Sardinia at its most untamed.

Sarcidano

Lesser known than neighbouring Barbagia and Marmilla, Sarcidano is full of ancient nuragic sites and dramatic waterfalls. Make time for Parco Aymerich in Laconi, a lush green park dotted with streams, rocky outcrops and waterfalls, before heading to Cascata di Lequarci for a swim beneath one of the area’s most impressive falls.
