Over on the chic western shore of Lake Como, Cà 'Spiga is a lovingly restored family home turned eight-room guesthouse. Originally built in 1845 and passed down through generations, the house was revived in 2011 by the same family, who carried out every part of the renovation themselves. Named after the owner’s great-great-grandfather – nicknamed “Spiga” after the Milanese street he worked on to support his family – the hotel honours his legacy in name and spirit. Interiors are sweet and nostalgic, with pastel walls, original floors, heirloom furniture, and the warmth of a nonna’s house. Each room overlooks the lake (wow), and guests can have breakfast (sweet cakes and cafetières) on the terrace, while evenings consist of raiding the honesty wine cellar. It’s low-key, local, and all Italian heart.

This little, family-run bottega in Lagio could not be more perfect for a lakeside aperitivo. Stools and a counter allow you to wine and dine outside with the water practically lapping at your toes. Order the tartare and the affettati, a platter of local cured meats (which you can also purchase from the bottega to take home).

Locanda La Tirlindana is one of the most scenic spots for a fantastic lunch or fresh & indulgent dinner on the shores of Lake Como. Make sure to get the speciality of the house: ravioli with mascarpone & lemon.

Isola Comincia is the only island in Lake Como, belonging to the Brera Academy. Though the taxi boat service is only open on a Saturday and Sunday, groups can visit during the week by appointment. Come for the lush greenery and to explore the ruins of the St. Euphemia Church.
