When the De Simone family opened this restaurant, balanced on a rock jutting into the sea in 1958, they filled the menu with the freshest picks from the sea and soil. Nearly 70 years on, nothing has changed – the menu is still made up of fish reeled in hours before and organic vegetables from the family’s clifftop farm. Go for the scialatielli allo scoglio, a signature, fresh seafood pasta made with clams, mussels, and squid.

Near the western end of the Sorrentine Peninsula, this gorgeous pebbly beach, in a fishing hamlet at the foot of Nerano, is the last resort on the Amalfi Coast – a little paradise right before nature reclaims the very tip of the land. Rent a sunbed, and flit between the sea and the restaurants that line the beach. More laidback and less sceney than other Costiera beaches, it’s a place of true relaxation.

Stanley Tucci called spaghetti alla Nerano – pasta swirled with delicate strips of courgette and provola cheese – one of the best things he’s ever eaten. Now on menus up and down the coast, it was invented in this restaurant on Nerano’s main beach in 1952 by Donna Rosa, the nonna of the current owners – and it’s still made to her secret recipe.
