The real reason we head to this jammed grocery store is for Cédric Casanova's olive oil stored in large silver barrels alongside one whole wall of La Tete Dans les Olives. Casanova is not just an olive oil producer, his whole ethos is dedicated to the environmental impact of harvesting them. As a result, the taste is exquisite; so much so that a drizzle turns into a douse and you are left wishing you came home with a bigger jar. Cluttering every nook of this grocery emporium is jars, pickles and antipasti – a perfect picnic stop-off. 

Occupying 6 Rue Sainte-Marthe, is a natural wine emporium and pocket-sized counter dolling out bottles to the surrounding wine-loving neighbours. Belleville isn't short of a wine bar or two, though Station la Cave is Thibaut's passion-project. The space mediates between a cellar and an evening hangout as folk pull out the steel tables and chairs for a pew, linger in the open space and perch on the orange-tiled bar. Expect a good atmosphere, but even funkier wine. 

An Italian deli becomes our go-to épicerie when wandering down the Rue Sainte-Marthe. No fuss interiors, save a couple of oak tables for the in-house aperitif and wine tasting, give way to shelves stacked with wine bottles, fridges full of Italian soda and a counter stacked with cheese, fresh ravioli and kilos of cured meats. 

Iconic for its collage-curved front, Dixième Degré hugs the corner of Rue Sainte-Marthe and the tiled, mosaic covered wall of the Rue Jean et Marie Moinon. Inside, is an equally chaos of colour: mix-match chairs sprawl across the hexagonal space and various chalkboards are propped against antique mirrors, lamps and door frames covered with the menu of the day. The €7 mojito never goes a miss.
