Whether it be for a dirty highball-filled martini or for a plate of hand-rolled spaghetti, Bar Piatto is a cosy, cocktail bar and restaurant. The main draw is the Italian-inspired cooking, although in the summer months the sheltered, sun-trap terrace around the back is the selling point. Inside this quaint yellow, terracotta-tiled topped building is a dining space with a warm candlelit glow, Parisian bistro-esque chairs, and a bar space overlooking the window into the pristinely ordered kitchen. Antipasti, pasta, and main plates of freshly-caught fish, there's good reason why Bar Piatto is a book-out. Reserve a table well in advance, and ask for a pew close to the window for prime people-watching. 

Manda is the casual cantine, breakfast club hangout and long-table supper event space defining the Aarhus foodie game. Hot honey toasts, a chia oat bowl served with baked rhubarb compote and caramelized banana to Turkish eggs doused in a hot chili oil; this is the breakfast of breakfasts. Take a pew on the morning sun-drenched terrace out front for the ultimate people watching and, when the afternoon hits, order aperitifs for the courtyard in the back. 

A concept store doubling up as the go-to Aarhus coffee destination. With a space designed by the interior design score of, CF Møller – Scandinavia's leading architecture firm – the white-painted, teal-shutter exteriors of the rectangular, unprepossessing building give way to an inside feast of design, There's smooth wood, stainless steel countertops, and clean white shelves decked with homeware and accessories. Shop Róhe, Homme, Frama, to name but a few, before siting down for a BMO and oat cortado. 

From a shed-size brick building is Koba, somewhat ticked behind an inner courtyard of central Aarhus, a micro-bakery that prides itself off using local, sustainable and seasonal produce. "Micro" is no joke, every inch of this space is filled with sacks of grain, the shelves stacked with a remarkably wide selection of sweet and savoury deliciousness. From chocolate and walnut swirls to macerated rhubarb galettes, sourdough brioche to goat-stuffed quiche: find the menu of the day scribbled in white ink upon the only window that also happens to double up as the serving counter.
