Fuglen Tokyo is a Norwegian import that works as a café by day and bar by night. Known for its light roast coffee and mid-century interiors, it offers a different feel to Tokyo’s more minimalist spaces. Sit inside if possible to drink in the full atmosphere, or outside in warmer months. The filter coffee is a good choice with its bright and well-rounded flavour enjoyed on its own. It’s worth revisiting later in the day – after 6pm it transitions into a bar with an impressive cocktail menu.
One train stop from Yoyogi-Uehara, this design hotel faces directly onto Yoyogi Park, with uninterrupted views into its tree canopy. The most recent TRUNK addition to Tokyo, the hotel is designed by Keiji Ashizawa, whose interiors lean into pale timber, stone surfaces, and softly diffused light. Rooms are spacious by Tokyo standards, many with balconies that open towards the greenery. Upstairs, a rooftop pool and dining space add a social layer without disrupting the overall calm. Across the street, as a bonus, you’ll find the popular Fulen coffee shop – perfect for enjoying Norwegian brunost with your coffee.
Although you might not associate cheese as being a traditional product of Japanese cuisine, this shop is one of the most fabulous places to pick up a wedge or two in the city!
